Summary:

Very rare Bedford J2 horsebox, I came across this wonderful horsebox in England, when I contacted the owner who is from Newzeland he told me that he purchased the Bedford in Brighton, the gentleman from hume he purchased told him that he did a considerable amount of research on these rare J2 hoseboxes in this particular body stile, he found out that there were only 3-4 in England and that Princess Diana's family the Spenser family have one in outstanding condition.

Based on this the Newzeland gentleman purchased the horsebox without any papers for it only a ministry for transport document warranting the date to 1961, the only information he could get was that at some time the horsebox was in Ireland and that the registration there was 6878-ZK. I then decided to purchase from the Newzeland gentleman on the same basis with no papers to speak about, this was taking a chance but nothing ventured nothing gained, I organised payment and had my transport company collect the Bedford and finally it arrived, as you can see from the pictures there is a great deal of work to be carried out and we will be undertaking this over the spring/summer months. I did a little research on Irish registration numbers and came across a website that had information on various numbers and letters for different counties and found that ZK related to Cork so I gave the registration department in Cork Co Co a call and they were most helpful and a couple of hours later a call came from them, good news the registration 6878-ZK was in fact Cork and related to my horsebox, a couple of documents later and once again this wonderful Bedford J2 horsebox is home and has a new owner and most importantly full certified paperwork.

Looking over the Bedford one can clearly see that in 1961 if you ordered one of these horseboxes you were certainly the lord of the manner for the whole interior cab is leather lined including the seats, the horsebox interior was built to the highest standards including seating, cooker, sink, period gas lighting and an assortment of presses the interior walls are all fully cladded and the construction beams are either oak or teak. I will be posting pictures and text as we proceed so keep an eye on progress, if you have any information about these horseboxes I would be very glad to hear from you.

If you have read the above thanks for taking the time to do so and I hope you will follow the restoration as it proceeds.

Regards

Richard.
